Commercial Pilot training time: FAA minimums

Harmony Air provides part 61 flight training. The FAA minimums for Commercial Pilot are:

  • 250 total hours of flight time
    • 100 hours of which must be in powered aircraft
    • 50 hours must be in airplanes
  • 100 hours of pilot-in-command time, 50 of which must be in airplanes
  • 50 hours of cross-country time, 10 of which must be in an airplane
  • 20 hours of training, including 10 of instrument, 10 of complex or TAA, and some additional cross-country and checkride prep requirements
  • 10 hours of solo flight time (or 10 hours performing the duties of PIC in an ASEL with an authorized instructor on board) accomplishing the cross-country and night requirements of 61.129(4)(i)(ii).

Note: These are just the minimum requirements as established by the FAA. The total hours that a student needs to achieve competency will vary per individual.

Requirements

  • Minimum 18 years old
  • Must have a Private Pilot License, recommended to already have an Instrument Rating
  • U.S. citizen or TSA approval to take flight lessons
  • Read, speak, and understand the English language
  • 3rd class medical certificate
  • Must pass written, oral, and flight tests
